Learn To Crawl

We spent our weekend at my mum's place. During conversation, my mum raised her concern about Little Darling’s crawling development. He is turning 9 months old two days later yet he has no intention of learning to crawl. My mum advised me lessen carrying this koala but let him moving around on the floor, allow him to explore and learn. Many people told me that is common that some babies skipped crawling and directly proceed to learn standing and walking but I still worried and feel uncomfortable if he really skip this milestone.

My concern was crawling is a very good motor skill that involved balancing and coordination between hands and knees. If not crawl but at least must creeping or scooting. I worried that skipped this motor development might have any negative impact on his other learning development in future although there is no strong scientific proven now!

I decided to teach him to crawl. I placed him on the crawling position and demonstrated him way of crawling. I encouraged him to follow. I placed apples, strawberries, bears, books all kinds of his favorite stuff few steps away from him to attract him to crawl or creep forward. One hour later, other then cried, he stayed put at the same point without any progress. He tried to sit down few times but I reinstated him back to crawling position and keep encouraged him to crawl.

Two hours later, I was furious and exhausted but I would not give up. Little Darling must crawls a few steps before I could call it a day. He has weeped for hours, tears, mucus, saliva, sweat were mixed up and fully covered his little face. He started to move, dragged his legs forward one step and lied down. I encouraged him to move another side of leg instead lied down. Our Little Darling is great! He moved about one meter in the next one hour! I was very happy with his performance, I praised and told him that we will practice again the following day till he can crawl.

Later on, I realized that his two little feet were wounded bacause of rubbed against the floor. My heart was aching and full with remorseful about my dogged and stupidness to let him practice on floor which was so hard! Our precious Little Darling must felt extremely painful and tiring after the three hours training, he took a very long nap in the afternoon.

I could not be bore to make him to practice in the following few days till his wounds were healed.

I learned from lesson, I set our training ground on a playmatt instead. Our brave warrior did much better this round! He could crawled one meter in twenty-give minutes! Great improvement though still lack of balancing and coordination. I strongly believed and have faith that our Little Darling would be able to crawl very well soon! I was so proud with his determination and adventurous spirit! :-)
